Water quality in Costa Cálida and Costa Blanca has an invisible but relentless enemy: Hardness (excess calcium). Over the years, calcium carbonate precipitates and bonds to the pool walls and floor. The result is a rough surface (a "sandpaper effect") that scratches swimmers' skin, unsightly white stains along the waterline, and dull-looking tiles.
At Servinmosol, we perform the technical treatment known as "Acid Wash", a controlled stripping process that dissolves these mineral deposits and restores the pool to its original look and smooth feel without the need for construction work.
Why is Limescale Removal Necessary?
Beyond aesthetics, a calcified pool presents maintenance and hygiene issues for any community:
- Algae Shelter: The rough surface of limescale creates micropores where algae spores (especially the dreaded black algae) embed themselves, protected from chlorine action. Removing scale means removing the algae's "bunker."
- Skin Abrasions: In heavily used community pools, children and the elderly often suffer scrapes and cuts on their feet due to the sharpness of the calcified bottom.
- Aged Appearance: A clean but calcified pool looks dirty and old. The blue tiles lose their sparkle and appear greyish and dull.
Our Safety and Execution Protocol
An Acid Wash is not a simple cleaning job; it is an aggressive chemical treatment that must be performed exclusively by professionals equipped with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and technical knowledge to ensure the grout and built-in elements (skimmers, lights) are not damaged.
1. Draining & Preparation
We drain the basin using high-flow submersible pumps. We protect metal elements (ladders, stainless steel lights) to prevent corrosion from acid fumes.
2. Application & Scrubbing
We apply a controlled mixture of descaling acid and wetting agents. We scrub manually in sections to lift the mineral crust without attacking the cement grout.
3. Neutralization
Crucial. Before evacuating the waste, we neutralize the acid with alkaline bases (bicarbonate/soda ash) to ensure the discharge is safe and eco-friendly.
4. High-Pressure Rinse
We use industrial pressure washers to remove any chemical residue, leaving the tiles completely clean, shiny, and ready for refilling.
This treatment is ideal to be performed in Winter or Spring, just before getting ready for the swimming season. We often combine this service with regrouting (new lechada) if the joints are worn out, leaving the pool literally like new for a fraction of the cost of a full renovation.
