NIE, TIE & Residency: Your Legal Status in Spain

Spanish bureaucracy can be overwhelming. Complex forms, appointments ("Cita Previa") that are impossible to get, and officials who only speak Spanish. At Servinmosol, we turn this administrative chaos into a simple process. Whether you want to buy a house, open a bank account, or move permanently to the Costa Cálida, we handle all the paperwork with the Immigration Office and the National Police.

⚠️ Did you know?

Owning property in Spain does not automatically grant you residency. And having a NIE (the number) does not mean you can live here all year round. It is vital to understand which document you need based on your goals.

1. NIE (Foreigner Identity Number)

This is the basic document. It is just a tax identification number. It does not grant you the right to reside or work, but it is mandatory for any economic activity.

2. EU Residency (Green Certificate / Tarjeta Verde)

If you are an EU citizen and want to live in Spain for more than 90 days, the White NIE is not enough. You need to register in the Central Registry of Foreigners.

The police require proof of two things to grant it:

  1. Economic Means: Proof of sufficient funds in a bank account or a valid work contract.
  2. Health Insurance: Full health coverage (Public system or Private Insurance with no co-payments).

We review your documents before going to the police to ensure your application is not rejected.

3. Non-EU Residency (TIE Card)

For non-EU citizens (including UK nationals post-Brexit), the process is stricter and requires obtaining the TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero), which is the physical plastic card with your photo and fingerprint.

Other Essential Procedures

Padron (Empadronamiento)

Registration at the Town Hall. It is mandatory to apply for residency, enroll children in school, or access public healthcare. We handle the registration at your local municipality.

Sworn Translation

Foreign documents (birth certificates, criminal records) must be translated into Spanish by an official sworn translator. We coordinate this service for you.

✅ Why hire a manager (Gestor)?

Getting an appointment ("Cita Previa") at the Immigration Office can take weeks or months if you don't know how the system works. We monitor appointments daily and know the exact requirements of each police station (Murcia, Cartagena, Alicante...), preventing you from being turned away due to missing paperwork.
