Palm Tree Pruning: Technique, Safety, and Plant Health

The palm tree is the icon of our Mediterranean landscape, but maintaining it is one of the most demanding and dangerous jobs in gardening. At Servinmosol, we have qualified professional "palmeros" (palm climbers) to work at heights, guaranteeing the health of the specimen and the safety of people and property below.

Pruning Techniques and Aesthetics

Not all palm trees are pruned the same way. We adapt the technique to the species (Washingtonia, Canary Island Date Palm, Date Palm) and the condition of the tree:

1. Cleaning and Crown Shaping

We remove dry fronds, inflorescences (dates), and low leaves that spoil the look. The most important part is profiling the crown (the base of the leaves), leaving it clean and geometric to prevent rodents or pests from nesting.

2. Trunk Shaving (Cepillado)

For a premium finish, we perform trunk shaving using specialized cutters, removing the bases of old leaves. This leaves the trunk smooth and stylized, typical of high-end gardens and hotels, and eliminates hiding places for insects.

Enemy #1: The Red Palm Weevil

In Murcia and Alicante, the Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Red Palm Weevil) is a devastating pest. Poorly executed pruning can be a death sentence for the palm tree, as the smell of fresh sap attracts the insect.

Safety and Waste Management

Climbing 15 meters high is not a game.

Zero Risks: Our operators use approved climbing systems or crane lifts and safety harnesses. We have Civil Liability Insurance to cover any incidents (broken tiles, falls, etc.), giving you total peace of mind.

Waste Removal: A single palm tree generates hundreds of kilos of waste. We don't leave it at your door. We have our own trucks to shred and transport the fronds to authorized composting plants, complying with municipal regulations.

⚠️ Falling Hazard

Dry fronds and date clusters can weigh over 5 kg. If they fall from a great height, they can cause serious accidents to people or vehicles.

Don't wait for them to fall. Preventive maintenance is a matter of civil safety.
