There is nothing comparable to the feeling of walking barefoot on fresh, dense natural grass. But in the climate of Murcia and Alicante, achieving that "green carpet" requires science and patience. At Servinmosol, we don't just scatter seeds; we study your soil and select the botanical varieties that will survive the summer with the lowest possible water consumption. A well-sown natural lawn not only beautifies your garden but also provides important environmental benefits: it acts as a natural air filter, reduces the heat in your surroundings, and prevents soil erosion during torrential rains (DANA).

The Secret is in the Soil
80% of a garden's success lies underground. Before planting anything, we perform thorough preparation:
- Cleaning and Rototilling: We remove old weeds and stones. We aerate compacted soil with machinery so future roots can breathe and go deep.
- Organic Amendments: We add vegetable mulch and silica sand to improve drainage and fertility. Rich soil creates strong grass.
The Phases of Growth
Planting a lawn from seed is a rewarding process. These are the key stages we monitor:
- Germination: Depending on the species and temperature, the first green shoots appear between 7 and 21 days after sowing.
- Rooting: Over the following weeks, young plants develop their root system to anchor firmly and seek nutrients.
- First Mow: This is done when the grass reaches about 8-10 cm in height, to encourage lateral growth and thicken the meadow.
Best Time to Sow in the Mediterranean Climate
The timing of sowing is crucial for success. In our area, there are two optimal windows:
- Spring (April - May): Ideal for warm-climate species (C4) that need soil temperatures to exceed 18°C to germinate strongly before the extreme summer heat.
- Autumn (September - October): Perfect for establishing the lawn with mild temperatures, allowing deep rooting with the first rains and avoiding summer water stress.

We don't plant the same grass here as in Northern Europe. We bet on C4 species (Warm Season Grasses) that love the sun, tolerate somewhat salty water, and above all, show very high resistance to drought, a vital factor in our region:
- Hybrid Bermuda (Cynodon): The queen of the Mediterranean. Very resistant to foot traffic. Its deep root system gives it exceptional drought resistance, allowing it to survive with widely spaced waterings in summer. It goes dormant in winter but sprouts back strongly in spring.
- Zoysia Japonica: Soft touch, slow growth (fewer mowings), and excellent shade tolerance. It handles the lack of water well thanks to its thick rhizomes that store water reserves.
- Paspalum Vaginatum: Ideal for beachfront properties, it withstands saline water and calima. It tolerates water stress while maintaining a deep green color even in the harshest coastal conditions.
The first 15 days are critical. The soil must be constantly moist but not waterlogged. We configure your irrigation controller with short and frequent cycles to ensure the seed germinates or the sod takes root, and then we progressively adjust the watering to "train" the roots to seek water deeper down.
