Technical Acid Wash: Renew Your Pool

Water quality in Costa Cálida and Costa Blanca has an invisible but constant enemy: hardness (excess calcium). Over the years, calcium carbonate precipitates and adheres to the walls and floor of the pool. The result is a rough surface ("sandpaper effect") that scrapes swimmers' skin, whitish stains on the waterline, and a dull color in the mosaic tiles.

At Servinmosol, we perform the technical treatment known as "Acid Wash", a controlled descaling process that dissolves these encrustations and returns the pool to its original appearance and feel without the need for construction work.

Before and after comparison of technical calcium removal (Acid Wash) in a pool

Why is it necessary to remove calcium?

Beyond aesthetics, a calcified pool is a maintenance and hygiene problem for the community:

Algae Shelter:

The rough surface of the calcium creates micropores where algae spores (especially the dreaded black algae) become embedded and protect themselves from the action of chlorine. Removing the calcium means eliminating the algae's "bunker".

Foot Injuries:

In heavily used community pools, children and the elderly suffer from abrasions and foot injuries due to the roughness of the calcified floor.

Aged Appearance:

A clean pool with calcium buildup looks dirty and old. The blue mosaic loses its shine and looks grayish.

Our Safety and Execution Protocol

An Acid Wash is not a simple cleaning; it is an aggressive chemical treatment that must be performed exclusively by professionals equipped with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and technical knowledge to avoid damaging the grout or built-in elements (skimmers, lights).

1. Emptying and Preparation

We empty the pool using high-flow submersible pumps. We protect metal elements (ladders, stainless steel lights) to prevent corrosion from acid vapors.

2. Application and Scrubbing

We apply a controlled mixture of descaling acid and wetting agents. We scrub manually in sections to lift the mineral crust without attacking the cement of the joints.

3. Neutralization

Fundamental. Before evacuating the waste, we neutralize the acid with alkaline bases (bicarbonate/caustic soda) to ensure the discharge is safe and ecological.

4. High-Pressure Rinsing

We use industrial pressure washers to remove any chemical residue, leaving the mosaic completely clean, shiny, and ready for filling.

💡 Professional Recommendation

This treatment is ideal to perform in Winter or Spring, just before getting the pool ready for the swimming season. Often, we combine this service with new grouting (regrouting) if the joints are heavily worn, leaving the pool literally like new for a fraction of the cost of a renovation.
