Marble and Terrazzo Floors:
Polishing, Diamond Grinding & Crystallization
Marble or terrazzo flooring is a noble material and 'for life', but in coastal areas it suffers accelerated wear. Beach sand on shoes and salt act as abrasives that dull the shine and open the pores of the stone, making it get dirty faster.
At Servinmosol we don't just clean; we restore the original surface of your floor bringing back the 'mirror effect'.
Difference between Polishing and Crystallization
It is the most common doubt. Depending on the condition of your floor, we apply one treatment or another:
Micro-polishing or Diamond Grinding
It is done when the floor has deep scratches, acid stains, or has lost its smoothness. We use heavy rotary machines with diamond discs of different grits (from 60 to 800 grit) to millimetrically grind the surface, removing physical damage and leaving the stone bare and smooth again.
Crystallization (Protection and Shine)
It is the final or maintenance finish. Through friction with steel wool and crystallizing products (fluorosilicates), we cause a thermochemical reaction that hardens the surface ('vitrification') and creates that layer of intense shine that reflects light and repels dirt.
Treatment of Stairs and Community Entrances
The entrance is the calling card of the community. A dull floor gives the feeling of an old building.
Skirting Board Stripping: We don't just do the floor. We manually clean the skirting boards and corners where large machines can't reach, removing the accumulation of old wax and floor cleaners.
Stair Treads: We have specific hand machines to polish the tread and riser of the stairs, areas that are usually very worn and dark.
Are you worried that polishing the floor will make it too 'slippery'? It's a myth. A well-crystallized floor is smooth but not necessarily slippery if it's dry.
However, for entrance areas or ramps, we can apply a final treatment with invisible anti-slip products that increase friction without killing the shine, complying with the safety required in transit areas.
Advantages over replacing the floor
Restoring a marble floor costs a fraction (approx. 10-15%) of what it would cost to tear it up and put in a new one. In addition, it is a clean job: we do not generate rubble or dust (it is done wet) and the floor can be walked on immediately after finishing.
