Shock Treatments:
The "Rescue" of your Pool
A summer storm, a heat wave, or a failure in the filtration system can turn a crystal-clear pool into a green pond in a matter of hours.
At Servinmosol, we don't believe in "emptying and filling" at the first opportunity. We apply professional shock treatments to kill bacteria, burn organic matter, and return transparency to the water, saving you thousands of liters. We operate throughout the Region of Murcia and the Costa Blanca, returning health to your pool in record time.

When is a Shock strictly necessary?
Daily maintenance is not always enough. A shock treatment (superchlorination or chemical oxidation) is an emergency intervention necessary in the following situations:
- Green or Cloudy Water (Algae Proliferation):
The walls are slippery, the bottom is not visible, and the water has lost its shine. Algae have taken over the basin and the free chlorine level has dropped to zero.
- Massive Use in Summer:
Especially critical in community pools and urbanizations. After heatwave weekends with dozens of bathers, sweat, sunscreens, and urine saturate the water, demanding a weekly or biweekly preventive shock oxidation.
- Strong "Chlorine" Smell (Excess Chloramines):
Paradoxically, if it smells very strong and eyes or skin itch, it is because the "good" chlorine has been depleted fighting dirt. You have to "shock" the water by multiplying the chlorine level by 10 to break and volatilize those irritating molecules.
- After Heavy Rains or Haze (Calima):
In the Levante area, "mud rain" is common. The rain washes away spores, Sahara dust, phosphates, and environmental pollutants that consume the disinfectant and instantly unbalance the pH.
- Biological Accidents:
If a fecal incident, vomiting, or the appearance of a dead animal (rodents, massive insects) occurs in the pool. Due to public health protocols, it requires an immediate high-concentration shock.
The Professional's Secret: Prior Diagnosis
Have you thrown buckets of chlorine and the water is still green? It is the most common problem we encounter. Before pouring a single chemical into the water, we carry out a complete digital analysis, because typical color strips or phenol red drops are insufficient to detect the true problems:
1. Stabilizer Blockage (Cyanuric Acid): Chlorine tablets contain a stabilizer so the sun doesn't degrade it. If this acid accumulates in excess (75 ppm), it completely blocks the effect of chlorine. It doesn't matter if you throw 20 more kilos; it won't work. We analyze this parameter; if there is a blockage, we perform a partial water renewal before acting.
2. Presence of Metals (Copper and Iron): If you fill with well water and do a chlorine shock without analyzing metals, the water will instantly turn brown, black, or emerald green due to metal oxidation. We detect this in time to use sequestering treatments beforehand.
3. Phosphate Levels: Phosphates are the "food" for algae. If levels exceed 500 ppb, any shock treatment will be temporary. We identify if we have to "starve" the algae before attacking it.
Our Step-by-Step Process (The Total Rescue)
A true shock treatment is not throwing a chemical powder and leaving. It is a multi-day technical intervention:
- 1
Drastic pH Adjustment: If the pH is not lowered to 7.0 - 7.2 before the shock, chlorine loses up to 80% of its disinfection strength and is wasted. We acidify it as a mandatory first step.
- 2
Intensive Brushing: Algae create an invisible protective biofilm. We vigorously brush walls and bottom to break that barrier and expose them to the chemical.
- 3
Exact Nocturnal Application: We calculate the exact ppm based on cubic meters. The treatment is applied at sunset (so UV rays do not evaporate the product in minutes) and with the filtration running.
- 4
Flocculation and Emptying (Waste): After killing the algae (the water will turn from green to a cloudy milky white), we flocculate so everything falls to the bottom. Then, we pass the manual pool cleaner directly to the drain (waste mode) so that dead biomass does not collapse the filter sand.
- 5
Filter Washing and Transition: Finally, we backwash the purification system and stabilize the water so it is safe for bathing.
Once your pool is recovered, the secret is not reaching this extreme point again.

Not all pools admit the same thing. As professionals, we do not limit ourselves to throwing "chlorine powder". We select the exact chemical according to the problem, the lining (Tile, Reinforced Foil/Liner, or Polyester), and the water hardness of Murcia and Alicante:
1. Dichlor (Fast Chlorine)
Fast and powerful action, ideal for tiled pools. It dissolves instantly without leaving residue on the bottom. We only use it if prior stabilizer levels are low.
2. Calcium Hypochlorite
The king of extreme shock. 70% chlorine without added stabilizer. Perfect for waters in our area that already suffer from excess cyanuric acid. Brutally destroys chloramines.
3. Sodium Hypochlorite (Liquid)
Liquid chlorine in high concentration. Ideal for ultra-fast and aggressive shock treatments in large community pools, as it does not add limescale or stabilizers to the water.
4. Chlorine-Free Shock (Oxygen / MPS)
Peroxides or monopersulfate oxidation. Ideal for liner or polyester pools, as it does not discolor the canvas. Burns organic matter and allows bathing just 30 minutes after application.
5. Aggressive Flocculation
After killing the algae, we use liquid flocculant and coagulants to group the tiny dead particles into a blanket at the bottom, allowing us to vacuum them to leave the water crystal clear.
6. Algaecide / Copper Shock
For resistant colonies of mustard algae or black algae embedded in the joints. We use copper-based complexes or quaternary ammonium polymers to break their biological shield.
When the cyanuric acid level is unrecoverable or limescale is extreme, a chemical shock treatment will not solve the root problem. You need a complete reset.
View Acid Wash and EmptyingHandling large amounts of concentrated chemicals (70% chlorines, acids) is highly dangerous. Incorrect mixtures can generate thermal explosions, and the emanating gases can cause severe respiratory burns.
Our technicians have the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and calculate the exact dose per cubic meter using software so as not to damage the linings, filtration equipment, or most importantly, the skin of future bathers.
