Tree Pruning & Felling: Safety, Aesthetics & Health

Large trees are the lungs and soul of any garden in the Costa Blanca and Costa Cálida, but their maintenance requires deep respect for plant biology and strict safety measures. At Servinmosol, we are arboriculture experts. We intervene to protect tree health, prevent branches from falling during strong winds (DANA), and ensure complete safety for homes, vehicles, and pedestrians living under their canopy.

Specialized Pruning Techniques

We don't prune just for the sake of it. Every cut has a specific purpose to improve the structure and vitality of the specimen:

1. Formative and Maintenance Pruning

Gardener shaping the crown of a young tree to guide its growth

We guide the tree's structural growth from youth or maintain its volume in adult specimens, ensuring branches don't interfere with facades, electrical cables, or street lighting.

2. Crown Deadwooding

Precise cutting of dry and diseased branches in a large tree's crown

This involves the meticulous removal of dry, diseased, rotten, or broken branches. It stops fungi and wood-boring insects from spreading to the rest of the tree and eliminates the risk of branches falling under their own weight.

3. Crown Thinning (Wind Sail Reduction)

Thinned tree crown allowing light and wind to pass through

We selectively empty the inside of the canopy to reduce foliage density. This allows wind to blow through the tree with less resistance (minimizing the risk of uprooting during storms) and lets sunlight reach the lawn below.

Specific Levante Species

Pines (Aleppo, Stone Pine)

Pruning a large Mediterranean pine to balance its branch weight

Pines tend to develop very heavy, unbalanced branches. We reduce weight at the tips to prevent tearing and remove processionary caterpillar nests, which pose an extreme danger to children and pets.

Ficus & Large Growth Species

Species like Ficus macrophylla or Ficus benjamina experience explosive growth in our climate. We control their invasive canopy to avoid excessive shading and maintain balanced structure to prevent damage to nearby walls and paving.

Structural Pruning Calendar

Heavy or structural pruning must always be done in winter (during the dormant period) so the tree doesn't lose sap and "bleed." Light maintenance pruning, such as removing dry branches or suckers, can be done in late spring or summer.

Execution Times and Performance

Execution times vary drastically depending on the species and job complexity. Thinning a fruit or mulberry tree's crown might take 1 to 2 hours, whereas dismantling a historic 15-meter pine by sections could require a full team for an entire workday (8 hours).

Controlled Felling in Confined Spaces

When a tree is dead, terminally ill, or its roots pose a structural danger to community homes or pools, felling is the only option. We carry out this process with surgical precision:

1. Risk Assessment and Planning

We study the tree's lean, anchor points, prevailing winds, and obstacles beneath the canopy (roofs, windows, fences) to plan a zero-risk material drop.

2. Sectional Dismantling (Climbing)

Specialist in harness cutting and lowering a heavy branch with ropes

If there's no room to fell the whole tree, our climbing team dismantles it from the top down. We secure heavy branches and trunks with a pulley and rigging rope system, gently lowering them to the ground without damaging anything.

3. Crane and Platform Use

For gigantic or highly dangerous specimens (with imminent risk of splitting), we use aerial platforms and crane trucks to support the tree while we cut it, guaranteeing maximum operational safety.

4. Stump Removal (Grinding)

Stump grinder crushing the stump of a freshly felled tree

Once felled, the remaining stump mars the garden and attracts pests. We use a stump grinder to mulch the wood base below ground level, allowing you to replant lawn or pave the area.

⚠️ Regulations and Protection

Warning: Felling a tree without a permit can result in severe fines. At Servinmosol, we handle felling permits with the Town Hall and check if the specimen is protected before acting.

Comprehensive Waste Management

Felling or pruning a large tree generates tons of wood and branches. Don't worry about a thing: we chip on-site or remove all leftover material to authorized treatment plants.
